He talked of his secret to an English sea captain, offering him half the value of the diamond for a safe passage to a free country. But during the voyage to Bombay, the captain came over the temptation: He murdered the slaves and took the diamond itself. After him to an Indian diamond dealer for 5000 - had $ sale, the captain led a lavish life. He suffered from severe remorse and hanged himself in delirium tremens.

The rough diamond was purchased by Harry Winston. When the stone arrived in New York, studying Harry Winston and his cleaver Pastor Colon Jr. diamonds for six months. Drawings were created, discarded and recreated again to find out how the stone could be cleaved. Then came the big day when the stone was cut. The voltage, which brings with it such an operation was not heated by the heat and light of headlights because the TV had permission to be present at this event. After the diamond was split, the Cleaver SGATE Pastor Colon nothing. He leaned over his workshop containers, take to the cleaved piece diamond itself. uncut diamonds softened up during grinding
The diamond is the hardest material in the world. But why does the crystal of carbon grind nonetheless valuable gems? Quantum physicists have now found out a surprising answer: the carbon atoms are "liquid".
A team of German researchers has discovered why diamonds - can grind at all - after all, the hardest material in the world: When polishing its surface is soft, so to speak. It is formed between the stone and the diamond chips of the grinding wheel, a layer in which the individual carbon atoms are much less tightly bound together than in the crystal itself, this layer can then either be mechanically using the disk or removed chemically by the action of atmospheric oxygen . "The moment in which the diamond is cut, the diamond is not a diamond more," Michael Moser brings the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials in Freiburg, the results of the study to the point.
