The Millennium Star

The Millennium Star is a teardrop-shaped cut diamond weighing 204.04 cts. He is the world's second largest diamond of the color grade D, internally and externally flawless with perfect proportions. The largest is the 273.15-carat Centenary. The rough diamond weighed the Millennium Star, the magic number of 777 ct.

The rough diamond was discovered in 1990 in the Mbuji-Mayi district of Zaire (Republic of Congo) in alluvial deposits and acquired by De Beers. The wipers of the Steinmetz Diamond Group needed more than three years to complete the classic teardrop shape with 54 facets. Several one hundred plastic models of diamonds have been created to plan a perfectly cut stone regarding beauty and weight. Lasers have been used for grinding.

For the first time the diamond in October 1999 in London, was the focus of the public as "De Beers Millennium Diamond Collection" vorgstellt. A second issue was the "De Beers Millennium Jewels Exhibition" in the new Millennium Dome in London in 2000. There was an attempt to steal the diamonds through a downturn with Bolldozern, which was foiled by a tip to Scotland Yard.
